This exhibition, on loan from the National Collection of Fine Arts and the National Gallery of Arts, included Catlin’s series “Voyages of Discovery of La Salle” which was commissioned by Louise Philippe to depict La Salle’s expedition to explore the Mississippi. Catlin’s recordings are not only valuable for their artistic quality but for their historical documentation.
