The South Texas Art League has been an integral part of the history of the Art Museum of South Texas since the 1940s. However, STAL began in the mid-nineteen thirties by art faculty at Texas A&I Kingsville, now TAMU-Kingsville.  Early on, Art League members were involved in operating the young museum located in Corpus Christi’s South Bluff Park. The Art League and many other vital local art groups make up the Art Center of Corpus Christi on Shoreline Boulevard.  The 2006 Art League competition continued an annual tradition in which members competed for a place in a fall exhibition at the Art Museum of South Texas. The show this year provides a diverse representation of subjects, methods, and media. What connects these works are the artists’ responses to things that universally inspire us. Whether objects in nature, people in our lives, or memorable moments, the resulting works culminate in experiences to be shared.

Congratulations and thank you to all of the artists that submitted work. More information about the South Texas Art League can be found at the exhibition’s beginning or contat current president Lez Glaze at 361-877-4076.
