Accessibility

The Art Museum of South Texas is committed to providing an accessible and welcoming experience for all visitors. The Museum’s public entrances and ramps are designed in accordance with applicable ADA accessibility standards, including slope and handrail requirements.
Due to the Museum’s site and architecture, the accessible entrance requires a ramped approach from the designated accessible parking areas. While the ramps comply with ADA guidelines, it may require additional time for some visitors to navigate.
Visitors who require assistance entering the building are encouraged to contact the Museum in advance or notify staff upon arrival. Staff will make reasonable efforts to facilitate entry and access to the Museum.
Available accommodations may include:
  • Providing wheelchairs for visitor use
  • Offering guidance to the most accessible route into the building
  • Coordinating with Museum staff to identify reasonable access solutions when needed
For safety and liability reasons, Museum staff are not able to provide physical mobility assistance, including pushing wheelchairs or assisting with transfers.
The Museum strives to work with each visitor to identify reasonable accommodations that support access while maintaining the safety of visitors and staff. Please call 361-825-3500 for special arrangements for visitors with physical limitations. ADA compliant parking in every parking lot and compliance with ADA service animal regulations. Click here for full service animal policy.
For health and safety reasons, shirts and shoes are required

The Collaboration for Ongoing Visitor Experience Studies (COVES) is designed to unite museums across the country to systematically collect, analyze, and report on visitor experience data.

We envision a collaborative museum community seeking to better understand and improve the visitor experience. We believe that studying the visitor experience in museums can help us learn about our visitors, make evidence-based decisions about services and programming, and respond to challenges, interests, and concerns in a visitor-centered manner.

Through Museums for All, those receiving food assistance (SNAP benefits) can gain free or reduced admission to more than 1,300 museums throughout the United States simply by presenting their EBT card and a photo ID.
