Exhibition to showcase artists shaping the contemporary art scene in Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX –The Art Museum of South Texas is proud to present Target Texas: ESTABLISHED, through the Female Gaze, the tenth installment of its acclaimed Target Texas biennial exhibition series, on view in the Chapman, Keeler and O’Connor Galleries opening September 10, 2026.
Celebrating the remarkable contributions of women artists working in Texas, this year’s exhibition highlights established artists whose careers have shaped the State’s contemporary art landscape while continuing to push creative boundaries. Featured artists include Frances Bagley, Pat Colville, Joey Fauerso, Linda Ridgway, and Ann Stautberg.
Marking the biennial’s tenth iteration, the exhibition also celebrates eleven accomplished South Texas women artists represented in the Art Museum of South Texas’ permanent collection, recognizing the region’s lasting impact on the visual arts.
Spanning photography, painting, sculpture, drawing, collage, ceramics, mixed media, bronze casting, and video, Target Texas: ESTABLISHED, through the Female Gaze explores the many ways artists interpret identity, place, memory, and the world around them through innovative artistic practices.
“The artists featured in this exhibition have spent decades building meaningful bodies of work and contributing to the cultural fabric of Texas.” said John O. and Louise G. Chapman endowed director, Sara S. Morgan. “We are honored to provide a space where their achievements can be celebrated and their ideas experienced by new audiences.”
The exhibition will be accompanied by a scholarly catalogue that documents the participating artists and further expands the conversation surrounding women artists working in Texas. Opening reception will be held, Wednesday September 9 from 5:30-7:30 PM. Target Texas Artist panel in the H-E-B Theater 6:00 PM.
Target Texas: ESTABLISHED, through the Female Gaze is on view through January 3, 2027, at the Art Museum of South Texas. Visitors are invited to experience this milestone exhibition celebrating the creativity, vision, and enduring influence of women artists across Texas. Opening along side Target Texas is solo exhibition, Will Vogt: These Americans, Edward S. Curtis Photographs from the Wittliff Collections, and South Texas Art League 92 Annual Juried Exhibition.
