Target Texas: ESTABLISHED, through the Female Gaze

Target Texas:ESTABLISHED, through the Female Gaze brings together five accomplished women artists whose practices have helped shape the contemporary art landscape in Texas and beyond. Part of the Art Museum of South Texas’ biennial Target Texas exhibition series, this exhibition pairs the work of leading artists from across the state, creating a dialogue between regional perspectives and broader artistic conversations.

Featuring Linda Ridgway, Ann Stautberg, Frances Bagley, Pat Colville, and Joey Fauerso, the exhibition celebrates artists whose decades of creative practice have resulted in bodies of work that are both deeply refined and continually evolving. Working across photography, painting, sculpture, installation, printmaking, and video, each artist offers a distinct perspective while exploring themes of identity, memory, place, perception, landscape, and the human experience.

Collectively, these artists represent some of the most respected voices in contemporary Texas art. Their careers include national and international residencies, major museum collections, significant publications, and representation by leading galleries. While their practices vary in medium and approach, each demonstrates an enduring commitment to innovation, technical mastery, and thoughtful exploration.

 Linda Ridgway’s poetic sculptures and installations draw from nature and personal history; Ann Stautberg’s hand-colored photographs offer contemplative views of the Texas landscape; Frances Bagley investigates the relationship between people and the spaces they inhabit through sculpture and installation; Pat Colville explores abstraction through spatial relationships and perception; and Joey Fauerso examines family, gender, and domestic life with wit, intimacy, and monumental scale.

Together, these five artists present compelling and deeply individual practices that invite visitors to consider the familiar through new perspectives. Target Texas: ESTABLISHED, through the Female Gaze celebrates the breadth of artistic vision cultivated over decades of experimentation, offering a powerful reflection on the many ways women artists continue to shape the visual language of contemporary art in Texas.
