Chinoiserie, though European in origin, emerged from a deep fascination with Chinese decorative arts during the 17^th and 18^th centuries. This style was born of admiration for the elegance, symbolism, and intricate beauty found in traditional Chinese craft, from porcelain to lacquerware to nature-inspired motifs. This year’s theme honors the rich Chinese heritage that inspired Chinoiserie, highlights the role of cultural exchange, and celebrates the enduring influence of Chinese decorative arts on contemporary design.

WHY: ARTball is AMST’s most important annual fundraising event. Each year, AMST works hard to bring arts education programs and diverse exhibitions to more than 35,000 children annually, in addition to countless residents and visitors of the Coastal Bend—many of whom come from underserved communities that lack the resources to obtain well-rounded, quality learning experiences through art.
