Art Museum of South Texas

This exhibition comprised a survey of the images that reported the development of the American West, from its exploration by the great surveys of the 19th century through the settling years, to its rediscovery near the turn of the century through the efforts of ethnologists to preserve its declining Indian and Spanish cultures. Included were photographs by William Henry Jackson, Timothy O’Sullivan, George Edward Anderson, and Adan Vroman, among others. The exhibition was organized and circulated by the Amon Carter Museum of American Art.
